Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) focuses on improving the function and coordination of the muscles of the face and mouth to support healthy breathing, chewing, swallowing, and speech. This therapy addresses concerns such as tongue thrust, mouth breathing, oral habits, and improper swallowing patterns, while also supporting feeding skills and overall oral function. By strengthening and retraining these muscles, we promote optimal orofacial development, improved feeding efficiency, and long-term functional success.
These services may be billed through insurance, as we are in network with most major insurance providers, or paid for privately. HSA funds are accepted, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

We provide comprehensive feeding and swallowing therapy across the lifespan, from infants and toddlers through adolescence and adulthood. Our services address a wide range of feeding challenges, including difficulty transitioning textures, limited food variety, oral motor delays, sensory-based feeding concerns, and medical or swallowing-related issues.
Therapy is individualized and evidence-based, focusing on building safe, efficient feeding skills while supporting positive mealtime experiences. Services may be provided by our speech-language pathologists and/or occupational therapists, depending on each client’s individual needs, ensuring a well-rounded and collaborative approach.
We work closely with families, caregivers, and medical providers to promote nutrition, growth, and independence at every stage of life

Swallowing - Voice
Young Adult +
We provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a wide range of voice and swallowing disorders, including hoarseness, vocal fatigue, bowed vocal cords, vocal nodules, vocal cord paralysis, and dysphagia (swallowing difficulties). Our therapy plans are individualized and evidence-based, designed to improve vocal quality, endurance, safe swallowing, and overall function. We collaborate closely with your physician and ENT specialist to support vocal cord health, protect airway safety, and promote efficient, sustainable communication and swallowing.
These services are offered by
Rafi Dworsky, who is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and Vocologist.

Occupational Therapy -
Infancy - Young Adult
Our certified Occupational Therapists use play-based, relationship-centered therapy to help children and young adults build independence, regulate emotions, and develop the skills needed for everyday life. Through meaningful play, we support motor development, sensory integration, self-care, and social participation, helping children confidently engage in their world.

Services include evaluations for ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, depression, and parenting concerns, as well as individualized therapy using evidence-based approaches such as Family and Marital Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Therapeutic Assessment. Coach Kris, focused on supporting children, adolescents, and families through meaningful, strengths-based guidance. Services are designed to promote confidence, emotional well-being, and resilience.

Everyday tasks like eating, dressing, using the bathroom, engaging with others, regulating emotions, completing hygiene routines, and managing daily expectations can be challenging for some children. Occupational therapy helps bridge that gap.
A child’s primary job is to play. Through play, children learn, explore, and build the foundation for essential life skills. ✨ Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026! ✨
2025 was an incredible year for Evergreen Therapy Solutions, and we are beyond grateful for the growth, trust, and support from our community.
This year, our speech therapy department expanded significantly, welcoming a handful of new therapists, adding several school contracts, and providing hundreds and hundreds of additional therapy sessions at our downtown Northfield clinic. In June, we proudly opened our second location in Lonsdale, allowing us to better serve smaller surrounding communities.
Alongside speech and language growth, we added another academic tutor, navigated transitions between a few downtown Northfield spaces, and in November made a BIG move into our new home at 515 Water St. S, expanding from 600 sq. ft. to over 3,300 sq. ft. 🎉
Our myofunctional therapy program has grown immensely, with individuals making rapid, meaningful progress, not only in daily functioning but also in speech sound production. We’ve received powerful feedback from families and school systems we collaborate with, sharing how impactful our services have been.
One of our biggest milestones this year was launching an entirely new discipline: Occupational Therapy. We quietly rolled out this program in November and have been serving many families over the past two months. We intentionally focused first on meeting the needs of our current clients, including a waitlist of over 45 families in the Northfield area who had been unable to access OT services for months. We’re proud to say those families were our priority. With the addition of another therapist and a successful launch, more information about open OT spots will be coming next week.
We are thrilled to share that Evergreen is truly becoming the hub of care we have always envisioned.
Thank you to everyone who supported our small business in Northfield and the surrounding communities. We are so proud of what we’ve built together and we can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store.

Just a few days out from the new year! We can’t believe how quickly the past six months have flown by. Since it has now been six months since our last round of screenings, we’re excited to offer them again starting January 1 through January 15th!

It’s official! We’re moving - SOON!!
On October 24th, we’ll be switching spaces with the law firm, and it truly couldn’t have worked out more perfectly. The new address will be 515 Water Street South, right across from the Just Foods Co-op!

What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is a specialized treatment approach that focuses on correcting the function of the tongue, lips, jaw, and breathing patterns. Think of it as physical therapy for your mouth—helping retrain the muscles that play a critical role in speech, swallowing, breathing, and overall oral health.
Why Did We Decide to Train Our SLP in OMT?
At Evergreen Therapy Solutions, we are committed to providing the most effective, research-based interventions for our clients. By training one of our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in OMT, we can address underlying muscle patterns that often interfere with progress in speech and communication.
How Does OMT Help?
* Speech: Strengthens and retrains tongue and oral muscles for clearer articulation.
* Breathing: Promotes nasal breathing, which supports healthy airway development and reduces strain on speech and swallowing.
* SLP Progress: Helps eliminate oral habits (such as tongue thrust, thumb sucking, or open-mouth posture) that can slow down therapy progress.
Why Do Dentists, Orthodontists, and ENTs Recommend OMT First?
Dentists, orthodontists, and ENTs often encourage OMT before or alongside their interventions because improper muscle function can undo their work. For example:
* Orthodontic treatment may relapse if tongue thrust or mouth breathing isn’t corrected.
* ENT procedures for airway or breathing are more successful when the muscles are trained to function properly.
* Dental health improves when lips and tongue rest in optimal positions.

We have openings for the summer months and are here to help families make the most of the added time that this season provides both at our Northfield and Lonsdale locations.
One of the most effective ways to use this time is by completing a comprehensive assessment. We offer evaluations for autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, dyslexia, and gifted. These assessments can provide clarity, guide support planning, and help set your child up for long-term success. Summer is the perfect time to complete this process without the pressure of the academic year.
We also offer speech and language therapy, including myofunctional therapy, with availability at both our Northfield and Lonsdale locations. These services are available year-round and can be accessed privately through Evergreen, even if your child receives school-based speech services during the academic year. By continuing or beginning speech therapy over the summer, children can maintain progress and avoid setbacks that often occur when services pause during school breaks.
We offer life coaching sessions with Coach Kris. She specializes in supporting youth and families through a variety of challenges and growth opportunities, offering coaching in the following areas: child and adolescent behavioral coaching, personal development coaching for youth, family support coaching, academic success coaching, and youth stress management coaching.
Her work helps children and teens develop the emotional and behavioral tools needed to thrive in and out of the classroom.
Last - academic tutoring services designed to reinforce academic skills and prevent summer learning loss. Whether your child needs help catching up, staying on track, or advancing in a particular subject, our tutors can provide individualized support that aligns with their learning goals.

Today, meet Nate!
Nate is a licensed psychologist and certified group psychotherapist.
Alongside two other psychologists, Nate founded @northfielddynamictherapy, where he specializes in anxiety concerns and mental health for college students. He also hosts the podcast "Your Anxiety Playground."
While Nate sees some individual therapy clients, he primarily focuses on running therapy groups and training therapists to lead these groups.
At Northfield Dynamic Therapy, Nate conducts ADHD testing for adults (18+) and is also qualified to assess adult autism.
Nate wears many hats! He is the founder of Group Therapy Central LLC, where he facilitates various training groups for therapists each week.
At Evergreen, Nate is part of a team of practitioners who provide comprehensive evaluations for preschoolers through young adults (under 18). These evaluations assess cognitive, social-emotional, academic, and adaptive behavioral functioning.

What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?

In June, Diane concluded her 37-year career with the Northfield Public Schools. We are thrilled that she decided to join the Evergreen family, as she brings a wealth of knowledge and support to our community of children.
Diane organizes book clubs and tutoring sessions for both reading and math. She dedicates an incredible amount of time and effort to her lessons, and all the kids she works with absolutely love her and eagerly anticipate their weekly sessions.

With over 30 years of experience as a school psychologist, I've had the privilege of working with children of all ages, from infants to young adults, in public, private, and charter schools. For 20 years, I was involved with the Northfield School District and the Cannon Valley Special Education Cooperative, conducting special education evaluations, consulting with families, school staff, and community professionals, and providing direct services and counseling.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, reading, taking walks, and enjoying the outdoors. My husband, Brian, and I live in Northfield and have two grown children, Allison and Michael. We have two golden retrievers, Olliver and Maggie, and a granddog, Bella, that keep me very busy!
I'm looking forward to bringing my experience and passion to Evergreen and positively impacting the families we serve.

Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a specialized form of therapy aimed at correcting improper oral habits and improving the function of the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat.
While it primarily focuses on enhancing functions such as breathing, swallowing, and chewing, it can also be effective in eliminating certain habits that may contribute to oral health issues or facial structure problems.
Here’s how HABIT ELIMINATION through Myofunctional Therapy works:
1. Assessment and Diagnosis: The first step in OMT is to assess the individual’s oral habits and muscle function.
2. Education & Awareness: Once the problematic habits are identified, the therapist educates the individual about the impact of these habits on their oral and overall health. This awareness is crucial as it helps the individual understand why changing these habits is important for their well-being.
3. Muscle Exercises: OMT involves a series of exercises designed to strengthen or retrain the muscles of the mouth and face.
4. Behavioral Modification Techniques: In addition to muscle exercises, OMT Therapists may employ behavioral modification techniques to help individuals break their habits.
5. Customized Treatment Plans: OMT is highly personalized, with treatment plans tailored to the individual’s unique needs and goals. The therapist works closely with the individual to develop a plan that addresses their specific habits and concerns.
6. Monitoring and Support: Throughout the therapy process, the individual is closely monitored by the therapist to track their progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.
7. Integration with Dental and Orthodontic Care: OMT often complements dental and orthodontic treatments, especially in cases where oral habits may be contributing to issues such as malocclusion (misalignment of the teeth) or obstructive sleep apnea.
Overall, OMT offers a holistic approach to habit elimination by addressing both the physical and behavioral aspects of oral habits.

Speech therapy helps individuals develop proper vocal techniques, strengthen vocal muscles, and learn strategies to maintain vocal health, ensuring effective communication and overall well-being.
Did you know that voice concerns can arise at any age? From infancy through adulthood - Infants may experience voice issues due to congenital anomalies or developmental delays, while children and adolescents might face voice problems related to vocal abuse, nodules, or other conditions.
On the other hand, adults may encounter voice issues due to aging, vocal strain, medical conditions, or professional demands. Voice concerns can impact anyone, regardless of age, highlighting the importance of vocal health across the lifespan.

What a fun morning at @annasbananasdaycare!! One of our little friends here at Evergreen Therapy Solutions started at Anna‘s Bananas in a preschool room. That preschool room was filled with a bunch of little eyes, ears, and hands that had never been around a talker before.
We explained why some people need a talker to help express their ideas and be understood by others.
We also explained how important it is for others to leave that tool alone as that is that individuals words.
The group of preschoolers was so engaged, had plenty of questions, and we feel receptively took in a ton of the information, thanks to this amazing book @eddietheelephantbook .
This story really helps children learn about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

Meet our new team member, Betsy! She is a registered dental hygienist with eight years of experience in general and periodontal dentistry. Betsy recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to complete an in-depth Orofacial Myology Evaluation and Therapy training.
Orofacial Myology is the study of head and oropharyngeal muscles, their functions, and movement. Myofunctional Therapy will help by teaching these muscles to rest and operate in an appropriate position for optimal function.
Starting in January 2024, we are offering therapy for the following conditions:

“Why did I become a Speech Therapist? From a very young age, I've known I had a passion for working with young children. I declared my major of Communication Disorders prior to day 1 of college after following a pretty amazing Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in the Northfield School District. She showed me that communication is key to human interaction.
Many think speech therapists play all day. To an extent, that’s true, but no session is the same. As a therapist, I love building early language through child-led play-based activities. Themes are also fun to teach new concepts and introduce novel vocabulary. Speech sounds can be addressed in an abundance of ways. The list goes on, I could talk about fluency, social skills, AAC, feeding, etc. I might be biased, but name a better gig??
I received my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees at Minnesota State University, Mankato (GO MAVS🤘🏼).
On a more personal note, I grew up in Northfield, married a townie, and now have two kids: our son, Boden (2), and our daughter Dani (6 months). We also have two dogs, Riggins and Bauer. I love spending time with my family and friends, doing DIY projects, and shopping”.

"Although I have always been fascinated by speech sounds and language in general, the field of speech-language pathology wasn’t on my radar until my first 2 sons were born and started to talk. It blew my mind that their little brains could recognize patterns and rules and apply them to communication without explicit instruction. Simultaneously, my mom and stepdad experienced cognitive decline and accompanying speech/language/voice issues.
Early speech and language development doesn’t come naturally to all children, and individuals of all ages and backgrounds can experience communication disorders. I began to research the field and made the decision to go back to school to pursue my Masters at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire through their online graduate program.
My husband, Tyler, and I have 3 boys (9, 8, and 3) and 2 dogs. We enjoy music, pickleball, downhill skiing, exploring the woods, and playing games together!"

Pictured: piratatak purchased from @contentbooks years ago, a simple apple volcano which was very strategically used to help elicit the
/sh/ sound, an apple tree building activity paired with the core word NEED, and a fun way to target /s/ blends with squirrels and acorns.
Kids who have difficulty with /s/ blends might say “sand” for “stand”, or “soup” for “scoop” or even omit the /s/ and say “mile” for “smile”. Changing one sound can completely change the meaning!
